The New York Giants are still looking for help at the linebacker position and their really scraping the bottom of the barrel now. The G-Men plan on working out Aaron Curry, the fourth overall pick in the 2009 draft, on Thursday. Curry has never lived up to the hype and has a history of knee issues.
Aaron Curry, the fourth-overall pick in the 2009 draft, is planning to make a free agent visit to the Giants on Thursday, the Daily News has learned. The 6-2, 255-pound linebacker hasn’t played since he was cut by the Oakland Raiders last November in part due to chronic knee problems that helped derail his career.
But he’s been working out and feels healthy, a source said, and has drawn the interest of several NFL teams. The Giants will get the first look at him, beginning when Curry arrives in New Jersey on Wednesday night. (NY Daily News)
While there are clearly better options out there, general manager Jerry Reese has never shied away from injury riddled vets. Remember last year the Giants took a flier on Keith Rivers, a former top 10 pick in 2008, that has also had injury issues. Rivers played in 11 games making 34 tackles, nothing big but serviceable.
Curry spent most of 2012 on the Physically Unable to Perform list because of his knees. If he is indeed healthy he could help a weak unit. Even if he’s not what will it hurt bringing him into training camp?
