Are the Eagles favorites to land Byron Maxwell?

The NFL is currently in the middle of the Combine but that hasn’t stopped rumors about the upcoming free agency period. One NFL Draft insider, Tony Pauline of DraftInsider, said today that the Eagles are currently the favorites to land former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Byron Maxwell. Hearing that really is no surprise because the secondary looks to be a major point of emphasis for the Birds this spring.

Maxwell is already one of top corners on the market this spring but seems like a perfect fit for what Chip Kelly likes. Chip likes big receivers with speed and that’s definitely Byron. Maxwell stands at 6’1 and has long arms with plus seed. Sounds like a match doesn’t it?

The only problem I see is will the Eagles pay up for Maxwell? Pauline tweeted earlier in the day that he’s hearing Maxwell is going to be looking for $10 million/annually.

With all of the reportedly interested teams I’m not going to be one surprised if his contract goes that high. I just question if the Eagles are willing to get in a bidding war and pay that much. Cap space isn’t an issue in Philly it’s more of a question on whether or not the Eagles will change their strategy and become big free agent players.

With that being said I don’t know if I could really call the Eagles favorites but then again Chip Kelly is in charge now. Will he be as aggressive in free agency as he is with his offense?
